The origins of the church in this area started in 1913 when Mr. Samual Senft had yearned and prayed for a gospel church in his community. The first service that was held was on January 18, 1914 with 25 people in attendance. Later on, in 1914, a congregation was organized as the Emmanuel Evangelical Church in Morse. Over the years as the church grew smaller, they decided to move the church to Hodgeville (1964).
In 1918 there was also a church started in Glen Bain, but in the 1970's it was discontinued.
In 1914 Samual Senft also came to Rush Lake and the Zion Evangelical Church was organized. A church was built 6 years later 15 miles northwest of Rush Lake and was given a resident Pastor in 1941. The country church was completely destroyed along with all of its contents by a fire of unknown origin on July 8th, 1961. Because of little insurance and poor crops 2 years running, it was a very difficult time for the church. It was then that they decided to rebuilt and relocate to Rush Lake. A vacant country school house was moved Rush Lake and added onto by 12 ft. In the move, attendance rose from 38 to 58 in the next year. Services were held there until 1980.During the time that all 3 churches were in existence, one pastor served all of them.
From Rush Lake the church moved to Swift Current. By this time several families also moved to Swift Current and others had agreed to drive in for Sunday morning services. The church rented the Seventh Day Adventist building for their services and in 1982 the new name of Faith Evangelical Community Church was adopted. Over the years several attempts were made to purchase a church building, but all fell through. In October and November of 1996 a very large and significant part of our history began. We voted to buy the Evangelical Mennonite Church and to sell the parsonage in order to be able to buy the church.
On May 18th,1997 the first service was held at the new building.
1310 Walker St. East in Swift Current. A great many thanks are due to the pioneers of our church, the ones who held on and kept it together with faith, prayers and hard work in the times of difficulty and prosperity. And of course the greatest thanks needs to be given to Our Lord, for without him none of this would have been possible May this new day of challenge launch us into oven greater fields of service that will bring honor and glory to our Heavenly King!
